Uncovered ruin
I was walking through the desert and I noticed something, and I brushed some sand aside and discovered mosaic tile. I brushed away more sand and realized I had uncovered a remarkable Roman ruin at one of the far-flung edges of the ancient empire.
Either that, or I came home to my apartment building and discovered they had ripped out the ugly hallway carpet and exposed this beautiful and long-forgotten floor underneath. And the next day, they had laid down new ugly carpet, covering the tile floor again until some future generation finds it.
