This weekend

When the cat's away...

This was a good weekend. I spent some time organizing my apartment. I got a new TV table from Scan. At the Java House on Saturday morning, J and I had a debate about when Hawaii became a state, and as usual there was an eavesdropper who confirmed that it was 1948. Saturday evening I hung out with N6 at Bliss after having a great Salvadoran dinner and a yummy margarita with J uptown in Columbia Heights. Rode my bike around town on Saturday afternoon. And my knee is getting better.

I also cooked up a batch of black bean stew... I forgot to buy tomato juice so I substituted in V8 Juice instead. Worked just fine.

Had lunch with my parents on Sunday, and on Sunday night I watched Casablanca, which has been sitting on my movie list for a month. Inexplicably I've never seen this classic and I thought it was time to set that straight. It was weird though, because so many of the lines from the movie are famous, that parts of it seemed like I actually had seen it before.

Hawaii became a state in March 1959. God, I'm such a dork. Sorry :(

P.S. Casablanca is great, but it is indeed ingrained in pop-culture, I had the same reaction to it. My little brother actually said it was cliche. jiminy christmas.

So does this mean you are now entering the world of watching movies? hmmmm, maybe I am confusing you with another friend of mine.....
anyway, I meant to see if you were in town back in May but things were really crazy for the two weeks that I was in DC. Any chance on you traveling out there to San Fran any time soon? :o)

Not fair that you came to DC and only told me afterwards! I actually was in San Fran recently too, if a two-hour layover in the airport can be counted as such....

OK, OK, so I'm really surprised I remember this coming from the Oklahoma public school system, but Alaska became a state in January 1959 and Hawaii that March.

1948? I'm sure some pretty bitchin' movies came out that year!

It hit me recently why the number "48" was in my mind. It wasn't a year at all, it was the number of states we had prior to Alaska and Hawaii. D'oh!
